Approach to the Pruritic Horse

sue-paterson

Short term symptomatic therapy of the pruritic horse is entirely appropriate on a welfare basis, but where pruritus is persistent it is important that it is investigated in order to establish a diagnosis and to put the most appropriate treatment in place. Although time is at a premium in practice, the investigation of pruritus is simple and quick to perform, and can be undertaken by both the peripatetic equine practitioner working from the boot of the car, or by clinicians in an equine referral setting. This presentation will look at the differential diagnoses of equine pruritus and discuss a logical approach to investigation.
