Screenshot 2024-07-01 at 15.50.35

Feline pyoderma is thought to be less common than canine pyoderma. This may be the case, but it is also very likely that feline pyoderma is still underdiagnosed. Allergic skin diseases including flea allergy dermatitis, food allergy and feline atopic skin syndrome are common causes of pyoderma.

Dr. Wildermuth discusses the feline allergic reaction patterns that have been reported to have a pyoderma component as well as how to diagnose pyoderma. Current recommendations for therapy in the cat and an open discussion of several aspects of feline pyoderma will be discussed in light of increasing resistance to antibiotics in human and veterinary medicine.
