Equine Infectious Skin Diseases; A Look At Bacterial, Fungal and Yeast Infections In Horses

From ringworm to Malassezia to sensitive and resistant bacterial infections - diagnosis and management of these equine cutaneous dermatoses can be a challenge. This seminar will provide an update on diagnosis and treatment of these three common conditions in the equine patient.

Learning Objectives:
1)    Identify similarities and differences between bacterial and dermatophytic (ringworm) lesions in horses.
2)    Select appropriate diagnostic options for bacterial and fungal dermatoses.
3)    Recognize and diagnose Malassezia dermatitis in horses
4)  Identify common underlying causes for secondary infections (e.g. equine allergies)
5)  Understand the mechanism of action of innovative topical therapies to help minimize the need for systemic therapies.
