Dr. Bettenay studied veterinary medicine in Melbourne/Australia from 1976-1980 and worked in a small animal practice, teaching and the feed industry before completing her residency in veterinary dermatology in Australia and at the University of California, Davis, USA. In 1989, she founded the Animal Skin & Allergy Clinic, the first independent veterinary private referral clinic in Australia, which she headed (together with her husband Ralf Müller) until 1999. From 1999 to 2003, Dr. Bettenay was a dermatologist and head of dermatopathology of the veterinary laboratory at Colorado State University in the United States. Since 2004 she has been working as a dermatopathologist in the animal dermatology Deisenhofen and works as a dermatologist in a referral clinic in Munich. Dr. Bettenay has given over 100 lectures and seminars in Europe, North America, Australia, Asia and New Zealand and has published many studies, case reports, articles, books and book chapters. She is particularly interested in dermatopathology as well as cat and equine dermatology.
